West Cathan House
Tir Collective was appointed to support a planning application submission for the restoration of West Cathan House, an historic, long-derelict stone cottage at the foot of Hardings Down, Llangennith, in the Gower AONB. The proposals seek to sensitively restore and extend the original dwelling to create a four-bedroom holiday home, blending heritage with low-impact contemporary design.
Our role focused on developing a naturalistic landscape approach that complements the restored cottage and its surrounding landscape character. Proposals enhance biodiversity through the introduction of native species and habitat features, while ornamental and edible planting is introduced near the dwelling to provide colour, scent, and seasonal interest. The planting strategy is subtle, locally informed, and designed to sit lightly within this sensitive rural setting.
Key Project Features
- Native planting strategy designed to enhance biodiversity and reflect the Gower landscape.
- Low-impact ornamental and edible planting near the dwelling to add interest while remaining sympathetic.
- Landscape input for planning application in support of a sensitive rural restoration within the AONB.
