The 114MW BESS grid-scale battery storage site is located between Dunston and Swainsthorpe, adjacent to a Norwich National Grid Substation.  The development includes 176 battery cubes and associated infrastructure, which helps to accommodate the increase in renewable energy being generated.  Tir Collective prepared the Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment, landscape strategy and visualisations for the planning application.  Cumulative impacts were a key consideration due to several battery storage sites, substations associated with offshore wind farms, and solar farms either being approved or within the planning process within the vicinity of the site.

Key constraints of the site included its location within open countryside and nearby public rights of way.  The landscape proposals include the planting of trees and scrub to help screen nearby views of the development, which would also contribute toward local biodiversity enhancement. The development was granted planning permission in 2023 and is currently progressing through detailed design.
