Tir Collective was appointed to prepare a Landscape and Visual Statement (LVS), Green Infrastructure Statement, and detailed Landscape Strategy for Rooklands Caravan Park, a proposed holiday lodge development on land at Porthcawl.

The scheme includes 38 holiday lodges with associated parking, a reception building, and a new access road and internal site road. Lodges are arranged around the perimeter of the site, with a central area of open space incorporating SuDS features, informal play, and new tree, shrub, and hedgerow planting.

A key objective of the landscape strategy is to retain and enhance existing landscape features. All trees on site are to be retained, along with the majority of boundary hedgerows. Where short sections of hedgerow are to be removed for new access, infill native hedgerow planting is proposed to restore continuity and reinforce green infrastructure. New planting is also proposed in the site’s northern corner and along the southern and western edges to provide additional screening.

The central open space will be planted with species-rich grassland, native shrubs, and tree planting, alongside a SuDS feature and informal play space. Elsewhere, new hedgerows, native shrub groups, and flowering and fruiting species will increase biodiversity and seasonal interest. Shrub planting is also proposed around key entrances, footpaths, and selected lodge plots.

The planting strategy favours locally sourced native species, where possible, using plant material from seed zones 303 or 304 as recommended by the Forestry Commission’s guidance on native provenance.

Landscape plans have been developed in close coordination with the wider consultant team including architects, planners, ecologists, drainage and transport engineers.
