Plas y Bryn Care Home
Tir Collective was instructed by Lawray Architects to prepare the landscape strategy and Green Infrastructure Statement for the Plas y Bryn Care Home project in Cwmgwilli, Carmarthenshire. The scheme proposes to demolish the existing substandard 32-bed facility and deliver a new 60-bed wheelchair-accessible care home, designed to meet the needs of residents now and into the future.
The proposed site layout has been developed by Lawray Architects, with the landscape strategy designed by Tir Collective, ecological input from Draig Ecology, and drainage by Cambria. The team has collaborated to ensure a coordinated approach to green infrastructure, biodiversity, and accessibility throughout the site.
Two generous outdoor spaces form the heart of the Plas y Bryn Care Home landscape approach – the Morning Garden and the Afternoon Garden. Located to the northeast and southwest of the proposed building respectively, these gardens are designed to support wellbeing, sensory stimulation, and interaction with nature.
The Morning Garden will offer a circular route with raised planters for growing vegetables and flowers, a pergola for shade, and seating areas for residents and visitors. The Afternoon Garden will include a sensory water feature, picnic tables, rain gardens, and sustainable drainage features. It is also designed to support residents with dementia through gentle routes and familiar, seasonal planting.
Native and pollinator-friendly species will be used wherever possible to enhance biodiversity, and all outdoor areas will be enclosed securely using a combination of railings and hedges.
This holistic and inclusive approach reflects the project’s vision to provide a safe, accessible, and stimulating environment for future residents.
