Melrose Hall, St Mellons, Cardiff
Melrose Hall will provide residential, nursing and specialist dementia care for its residents, with a total of 81 bedrooms, team study and clinical and medical spaces, a cinema, lounges, dining room and activity rooms, celebration spaces, hair and nail salons, treatment and sensory rooms, kitchen and laundry spaces, and external amenity spaces and terraces.
Tir Collective prepared comprehensive landscape proposals, bringing together the site layout, the drainage scheme and ecology enhancements, and worked around fixed constraints which included a large gas main easement zone. Tir Collective prepared landscape design proposals for the external communal spaces including, raised planters, seating, tree and shrub/herbaceous planting, and informal play opportunities for residents’ visitors.
In addition, Tir Collective worked with the project arboriculturist relating to root protection areas for trees to be retained, and the project drainage engineer relating to SuDS. We produced fully detailed planting plans for the planning and SAB submissions and proposed suitable soil volumes for new tree planting. The scheme received planning approval in January 2024.
