Howardian Centre, Cardiff
A Cardiff Living residential development comprising 43 homes on the former Howardian Centre site in Penylan, Cardiff which was a former high school and a primary school. Completed in 2023, the landscape scheme focused on sustainable drainage features providing year round interest and amenity value to contribute to placemaking. The rain gardens were planted with ornamental grasses, herbaceous plants, shrubs and trees suited to the growing conditions within the filter medium.
We were appointed from the concept stage through to completion, including the preparation of landscape plans and a Green Infrastructure Statement for the planning application, with subsequent detailed design drawings for tender and construction. During the design development, we liaised with the Tree Officer at Cardiff Council relating to soil volumes for proposed trees and species selection to achieve Cardiff SPG compliant root volumes within soft landscape areas.
