The Former Michaelston College redevelopment presents a landmark example of integrating biodiversity and placemaking within a major brownfield regeneration scheme in Cardiff. As part of the Cardiff Living programme, the project delivers a measurable biodiversity net gain guided by the mitigation hierarchy and best practice in ecological design. A robust green infrastructure strategy incorporates retained and enhanced habitats, multifunctional sustainable drainage features, and distinctive locally appropriate planting. These elements ensure long-term resilience, ecological connectivity, and a high-quality sense of place.

The project forms part of Cardiff Living, a wider regeneration programme delivering over 2,000 homes across 26 brownfield sites in the city. The Former Michaelston College redevelopment scheme includes a well-being village, residential and children’s respite care, and a range of community uses, all embedded within a cohesive green infrastructure framework. Existing mature trees and woodland are retained, while new civic space adjacent to the community hub includes sustainable drainage features that contribute to the character and identity of the site.
