Tir Collective was appointed by Watkin Jones Group to prepare a Green Infrastructure Statement and landscape stratgey in support of a co-living development at the corner of Custom House Street and Bute Street, Cardiff city centre.

The site is a constrained brownfield plot within a mixed-use urban setting, close to transport links, amenities, and employment opportunities. The proposals respond to the city-centre context with a contemporary, high-rise residential scheme designed by Rio Architects.

Our landscape strategy strengthens local placemaking by incorporating raised planters, herbaceous and evergreen species, and integrated street furniture. Planting is focused at ground level and on upper terraces, enhancing biodiversity and visual amenity where space allows.

Public seating is proposed along Hope Street and Custom House Street, with space allocated for cycle and motorcycle parking. While limited by underground services and access requirements, the scheme delivers net improvements in green infrastructure and supports Cardiff’s wider sustainability goals.

Key Project Features

  • Targeted public realm enhancements including seating, cycle parking, and green infrastructure in response to complex access and service constraints.
  • Integrated raised planters and terraces providing amenity, visual interest, and biodiversity in a constrained city-centre context.
  • Urban grid landscape design that echoes the architectural rhythm and surrounding public realm.
